Paddleboarding at Lac Montriond

When visiting Lac Montriond this summer, your time there doesn’t have to be limited to sunbathing and eating icecream (although that is one of our favourite ways to pass the time on a sweltering afternoon!)

The obvious option is to jump in the water, it’s lovely and warm right now and a great way to cool off from the summer heat.
But for the more adventurous amongst you, why not hire a canoe, a kayak or a paddleboard for the afternoon.

We took out a paddleboard this weekend and can assure you it’s a great laugh. It can be a little tricky to begin with but once you get the hang of it, it’s easy!

They have two types of board up at the lake. The red inflatable ones are super stable and great for complete beginners and those who’ve less experience with balance sports. The white ones are nowhere near as buoyant but are much faster and more maneuverable. You’re likely to get wet a few times on the latter option.

The paddleboards start from €8 for half an hour or €15 for an hour and there’s no need to book.
Just turn up between 9am and 4pm. You can find the guys at the near end of the lake, you cant miss their colourful collection of watercraft. Be aware there may be a wait on the paddleboards, but canoes and kayaks are usually available immediately.

And remember, paddleboarding is a brilliant form of exercise. It’s great for your balance, strengthens your core and can improve both stamina and upper body strength, plus its great fun.
