Today Source Magazine was invited to meet Mariana Soriano, for whom a whole new position has been created at the Mairie de Morzine-Avoriaz. Since December Mariana has been in charge of communication and community life services at the town hall and she’s looking to build relationships with the local community – both French and English.
We’ll be publishing regular important updates from the Mairie de Morzine-Avoriaz in English on the Source website from now on. Although many of these updates will be of particular interest to local residents, there’ll also be news on resort developments and facilities too – these updates are important for everyone that has an interest in the resort and we hope you’ll find them useful.
Mariana’s been very busy during her first few months in her new role. Did you know that the Mairie de Morzine-Avoriaz is now on Facebook and Twitter for example? And have you seen the new website? Visit www.morzine.fr to read all about the major projects currently under development in Morzine-Avoriaz, including the proposed lift extension between Morzine and Les Prodains to create a connection with Avoriaz.
We were keen to know how locals can pitch ideas for village improvements and developments to the Mairie. There’s quite a complicated, bureaucratic process involved, but in order to move the resort forward and remain a competitive holiday destination, the Mairie recognises that it’s important to listen to various stakeholders. You can e-mail your ideas or suggestions to idees@morzine.fr. Mariana is genuinely interested in your ideas and she’d love to hear from you.
The next issue of the Mairie’s quarterly magazine ‘Le Mag’ will be published in June and it includes features on the development of mountain biking in the area and new environmental initiatives. ‘Le Mag’ is published in both English and French and you can read the previous issue here.
Here at Source Magazine we see this as a really positive development for the resort. The Mairie’s priority is the development of the resort and they are responsible for deciding how and where money is spent in Morzine-Avoriaz. Engaging with the whole community is an essential part of ‘getting it right’ and Mariana’s very keen for her role to be useful and transparent.
