Nestled between Les Gets and Avoriaz, Morzine has something for everyone. We’ve picked out a few hidden gems that you might not know about…
Biathlon – Taster sessions with the ESF
Biathlon mixes the increasingly popular sports of cross country skiing and laser shooting. New biathlon sites have been created across the Morzine ski area and the ESF have developed a taster session, which teaches you how to do both! Half day lessons are priced at €41.50, or €172 for 6 half days. Contact the ESF in Morzine for more information.
Paper Cutting – Les Petits Papiers d’Alice
Paper cutting is very much a Swiss tradition, but in her studio and gallery in central Morzine, Alice patiently transforms a piece of blank paper into a delicate Alpine frieze. Her own creations, as well as those of other Alpine artists such as Charlie Adams of Bungalow Graphics fame are exhibited within the gallery. You’ll find Alice on Route de la Combe a Zorre.
Aquatic Centre – Soak away those aches and pains
The fantastic new €9million complex under the Pasarelle footbridge and next to the Skoda Arena includes a huge 25 x 15 metre swimming pool, a learner pool and a kids paddling pool and a spa complex with three saunas and two hammams. There’s also a very nice café for post-pool snacks! The aquatic centre is open Mon – Fri, 12.30pm – 7.45pm, with late opening until 9.15pm on Weds. Sat & Sun from 2pm to 7.45pm. Entry is €7 for adults, €5 for kids, under 5’s are free. Call +33 (0) 4 50 79 01 69 for info.
Local Heritage Map – Explore the old village
Despite its fantastic visitor facilities, Morzine was a traditional Savoyarde farming village first, and a ski resort second. Using a free map available at the Office de Tourisme, you can discover the heritage and history of the village on foot at your own speed. A free, guided tour also takes place every Thursday at 10am, meeting at the Place de L’Eglise.
Basscamp Apres Parties – Le Tremplin
Gaining massive momentum during the last three winter seasons, Basscamp Apres Parties take over the terrace at Le Tremplin, at the bottom of the Pleney piste. Expect breaks, electro, house, drum & bass and dubstep by live DJs from the huge 4k sound system. The party is free, it starts at 4pm and finishes at 8pm.
