Snow Camp Alpine Challenge Charity Ski Event in Morzine 2013
All eyes are on Morzine in January each year as more than 50 of the bravest skiers attempt to complete the Snow Camp Alpine Challenge. Formerly known as the Everest Challenge, this charity ski event in Morzine is Snow Camp’s biggest fundraising event of the year.
Since 2003 Snow Camp has used snow sports such as skiing and snowboarding to challenge and inspire children and teenagers from underprivileged, city centre backgrounds. Within the Snow Camp programme children grow their confidence, self esteem and positivity while they develop as individuals. The emphasis is on developing new skills to support their futures and many end up working within the snow sports industry.
The Alpine Challenge, as well as other fundraising events throughout the year, raises much needed funds for the charity so it can continue to offer these important opportunities to more children.
This year in Morzine 25 teams will compete for the Alpine Challenge trophy. Teams of 4 skiers or snowboarders attempt a course of 150km around the Portes du Soleil with a GPS tracker, navigating themselves to checkpoints in 15 different ski resorts. The course must be completed in 2 days and it also includes a 10km night hike! The team that clocks up the biggest distance covered and completes the night hike is the winner!
If this sounds like your idea of fun (and believe me, I know people who’ve taken part and loved every single second) then visit the Snow Camp website to find out more!
