Severe storms and heavy rain is expected to batter the Haute Savoie this weekend, just as the summer mountain bike season gets cracking across the Portes du Soleil. The local prefecture has called for vigilance as powerful storms, strong winds and heavy rain pass over the area.
If you’re heading out and about this weekend, take care. The approaching storm is set to begin mid-afternoon, bringing between 60 and 90 litres of water per square metre. There’ll also be up to 60cm of snow above 3400m.
The Haute Savoie prefecture are warning that there’s a particular risk of overflowing rivers, landslides and avalanches. Therefore, only travel if absolutely necessary and avoid mountain roads whenever possible. Don’t attempt to drive through flooded roads and if your walking on river trails, take extra care.
