You may have heard about recent confusion relating to a crackdown on the use of privately-owned SUPs and ‘floating devices’ on Lake Montriond. It was originally put forward this June by the Mairie de Montriond that personally-owned floating items like stand-up paddle boards, canoes and even inflatable dinghies were banned unless you had a licence, or unless they were hired from the hire shop on the lake. However details and information on how to obtain said licence were murky at best.
Fortunately we’ve just had word from the Mairie, in the form of an official document, that you WILL be able to use your own canoe or SUP on the lake during the summer, without the worry of being fined. The conditions are that you stay inside the marked area within the lake and that all activities partaken using your own personal equipment will be at your own risk.
Swimming is also allowed at your own personal risk.
You can view a copy of the official document HERE.
Other rules noted in the document include:
- All dogs must be kept on a lead
- No motorised vehicles, kitesurfing or windsurfing on the lake
- No fires – please use the BBQs provided
- No camping
- No loud music
There you have it, go forth and SUP!
