We do enjoy bringing you updates on favourite ski resorts in the run-up to winter, especially when it comes to new pistes! It seems all the resorts in the vicinity are updating their pistes this winter (Les Gets and Avoriaz included), and Morzine is no exception. Morzine’s commitment to improving its ski area (and bike trails) over the past few years has been really impressive so we’re extra keen to see what the team at the Pleney lift company has in store for is this year.

The Morzine ski area will be providing skiers and snowboarders with two new pistes for winter 2019 / 20, which are under construction as we speak. The first, over on the Nyon ski area, is a complete rerouting of the Aigle Rouge piste, a red run that goes from the Nyon peak to the Nyon plateau. The new Aigle Rouge is expected to be around 2km long and cover a 700m altitude difference, changes we’re sure will bring more keen shredders over to enjoy what Nyon has to offer.

Aside from a new piste, authentic restaurants and breath-taking views, did you know that Nyon also has a snow park? While Avoriaz may be renowned as the freestyle resort of les Portes du Soleil, the Nyon park is great as it’s often uncrowded which means keen freestylers can hone their skills in a slightly more secluded area. Hardcore Nyon snow park fans can rejoice in the news that this winter, the park will be completely remodelled; it will even have a new name, EaglePark Morzine. There are lots of exciting plans in the works to create a snow park that everyone from complete beginners to seasoned freestyle riders will love, so watch this space for updates.

And last but not least, the Pleney will also be the proud recipient of a new piste this winter. A variation on le Grizzli (also known as piste G), this new blue run will start from the top of the Belvédère chairlift on the Pleney plateau and then give you the option to either return to the Pleney ski area or head over to Nyon. With its tree-lined slopes and stunning views, we reckon this is one of the most beautiful areas to ski in the Portes do Soleil, so we’re really looking forward to seeing the finished article.

That’s all the new pistes in Morzine covered for now, all that’s left is to ski them, which we’ll be doing in just a few short months! Stay tuned for more news, information and exciting goings-on around Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets in the months leading up to winter.
