Tri4theAlps’ Joe Pearson is no stranger to the world of the professional triathlete. He’s been hosting training camps here in Morzine for a little while now, and this summer he’s responsible for a constant trickle of triathlon talent. Here’s what happened when Jodie Stimpson came to stay…
Jodie is the current female world number 2 ranked ITU triathlete, she has already won 2 World Series events this season and is one of UK’s medals hopefuls at the upcoming Commonwealth games in Glasgow.
Hailing from the Black Country of Oldbury in the UK, this is not Jodie’s first time to Morzine, having spent last summer here with her coach Darren Smith and his famous D-Squad, “I haven’t yet visited Morzine in winter but I think it would be a special place to be covered in snow. I can’t ski yet, but maybe at the end of my triathlon career or maybe just to have hot chocolate at Dotty’s”.
Jodie rates her greatest achievements to date as finishing 2nd overall in the 2013 World Triathlon Series and winning the WTS race in Kitzbhuel, “I know training in Morzine played a big part in that win!”
“Morzine is such a fantastic place to train, you have a fab 50mtr and 25mtr swimming pool, the running is off road, and well the cycling will get you strong for sure and who wouldn’t love the views you get around here”.
“My favorite ride from Morzine would have to be up to Avoriaz going up past the lake (Montriond) and through the goat village (Les Lindarets). My favorite run is running a good hard session around Lake Montriond and swim would have to be some dive 50’s, when I’m not dead from the running and cycling, which is not very often”
Jodie’s main focus for this season comes in 4 weeks time at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. “It is my biggest race of the season, so I am training hard at the moment for that race”.
Jodie is passionate about the sport of triathlon and has some great advice for anyone thinking about trying the sport. “Get yourself on a tri4thealps training holiday in Morzine, this is not only great for training, but meeting new people in triathlon and getting to talk to triathletes. We are quite nice people and that’s what so additive to the sport, its like a bubble and everyone is happy to talk to other triathletes about their experiences”.
Jodie has just made her first cover of UK Triathlon 220 magazine, keep an eye out for it!
