We know it’s almost winter but we can’t ignore this exciting mountain biking news from Les Gets…! Not only is Les Gets one of the most renowned resorts in Les Portes du Soleil for mountain biking, it’s also hosted world-famous mountain biking festival Crankworx for the past three years. So imagine our surprise when the Les Gets powers that be announced that over the next few years the resort will be hosting four UCI World Cup events AND the UCI Mountain Biking World Championships!

After Morzine hosted the French National Downhill Championships this summer, it appears that mountain biking in the Portes du Soleil is just getting bigger and bigger. Les Gets hasn’t hosted a UCI event since the World Championships in 2004, but the resort has just announced it will be organising and hosting three years worth of mountain biking competitive goodness, starting with both downhill and cross country world cup events in summer 2019 and culminating in the Mountain Bike World Championships in 2022. Hosting a race as part of the World Cup points-building season is exciting enough, but hosting the standalone event, the World Championships, is really something.

Here are the provisional dates of the mountain biking events of the summer in Les Gets for the next few years. Start planning your holiday now!

13th – 14th July 2019: Downhill and Cross Country World Cup races.

19th – 20th September 2020: Downhill and Cross Country World Cup Finals.

Les Gets is currently a candidate to organise and host the Downhill and Cross Country World Cup Finals in 2021

24th – 28th August 2022: Downhill and Cross Country WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS!

Yep, it’s all pretty looking pretty exciting for the next four summers. Not only will Les Gets be cementing its already stellar reputation as a mountain bike destination, the resort will be jam packed with pro riders and exciting spectacles for each race and event. And as always with mountain biking events, that likely means lots of bike tests, live music, parties and generally lots of bike-themed stuff going on, as well as a healthy buzz around town. Who knows, we could even have some new bike trails to look forward to…!

Keep your eyes peeled for more World Cup / World Championship updates, we’ll be reporting them to you as they happen!
