Yes, you heard that right. Not only is Les Gets upping its game in terms of eco-tourism, new lifts and spectacular events, it’s also cementing its place in the 21st century by offering virtual reality tours of the ski slopes, bike trails and town centre.
What?! We hear you cry. How?! Well, it’s actually not as futuristic as it sounds, but it is going to be quite useful for Les Gets visitors who want to familiarise themselves with the area a little before they arrive. For just €5 (a steal compared to going to see a 3D film at the cinema) you can buy a pair of VR glasses, which has a special slot for your phone. You then go to the 360º Videos page on the Les Gets website, select a video, slot your phone into the allotted area and put the glasses on.
Once the video is playing, you’ll be right in the centre of the action. Literally. All the clips are filmed with a 360º camera, so to get a good look around all you need to do is move your head, up, down and to the sides, and you’ll be able to see the stunning views from all angles. Plus, it means you can access the pistes without having to take a chairlift, or even leave your living room. (As a side note, if you’re viewing the videos on your computer without the glasses, you can use the arrows at the corner of the screen for a slightly less sensational 360º experience.)
Available winter piste tours include routes off the La Rosta chairlift, as well as a 360º tour of the ice rink in the town centre. Whether you’re doing holiday destination research, planning to impress your holiday buddies with your area know-how or just messing around in your chalet, this is a great way to find your way around from (pun absolutely intended) a different perspective.
