Happy 50th Birthday Portes du Soleil!

On Saturday 17th January our favourite ski area turns 50, and a huge party has been planned to celebrate. The Portes du Soleil is still one of the largest connected ski domains in the world and you won’t find a cheaper big area lift pass per skiable kilometer anywhere else.

On 17th January from 11am there’ll be a huge part at 1950m on the Col des Portes du Soleil (descend from the top of the Mossettes lift into Switzerland on the blue piste and hang a left) to enjoy a free aperitif and live music. On the same day there’s a treasure hunt across the whole ski area; find four markers and you’ll win a 1 day Portes du Soleil lift pass.

Portes du Soleil lift passes purchased for Saturday 17th January are also reduced by 50%.

Perhaps the most exciting part of the birthday celebration begins at 4.30pm on Saturday on the Pleney in Morzine, when there’ll be an attempt to break the world record for the longest ever torch lit descent, currently standing at 2854 people. Anyone can join in the challenge and it’s free to enter. You just need to visit portesdusoleil.com to register, then collect your torch from the ESF office.

If spectating is more your thing, here’ll be snacks, hot drinks and a DJ to keep the crowd warm at the bottom of the Pleney, and the whole even precedes a huge concert in the centre of Morzine from 6pm, along with a huge fireworks display
