This Week – Breast Cancer Mammogram in Thonon
This weeks Friday freebie concerns all the ladies of the valley. As some of you know a group of us did a sponsored walk last year ‘the Tour des Anges’ around the Portes du Soleil and raised money for the Lavender trust based in the UK, a charity that supports young women with breast cancer. However not many of you may know that we also gave over 3000€ of the money raised towards a new scanner for Thonon hospital. This scanner or mammogram is one of only 2 in France and is at the forefront of early breast cancer detection.
I would advise all women over 40 or if you are worried about your breasts to ask their doctors for a mammogram (they have to give you a prescription) and then armed with the prescription you can ring Thonon hospital for an appointment to get yourselves tested and to test the new scanner!
Doctor Salvat who had the idea of obtaining the scanner and started the ball running to get funds for it by setting up his association Seins Leman avenir, was delighted that a group of British women from Morzine raised some money and urged us all to have a scan and when you do if you donated any money to the Tour des Anges, then you can tell the radiologist that you in part helped pay for the scanner.
We are very lucky to have such a great health service in this valley and this is another brilliant service on offer in order to help with the early detection of breast cancer.
If you would like any other information about the scanner, then don’t hesitate to get in touch. We will be doing another big fund raiser next year if you would like to get involved, otherwise most of the proceeds from April’s film night will go towards the Lavender trust again, with more info to follow.
