The sun is shining and the summer holidays are in full swing here in les Portes du Soleil! There’s so much for families to enjoy in Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets, from going on hikes to spending days at the lake or by the pool. But that’s not all, not by a long shot! If you’re out visiting with the family this month here are a few of our favourite activities and events that every member of the clan will love.
Les Feux de Lac Montriond: 3rd August
It may mean staying up a little past regular bedtime but les Feux de Lac Montriond is definitely worth it! This huge fireworks display is one of the events of the summer and it’s great for all ages. Kids (and grown-ups!) can enjoy lots of activities, themed parades and demonstrations throughout the afternoon, and once it gets dark, it’s time for the fireworks!

Les Gets Summer Lounge Music Festival: 5th – 18th August
Les Gets Lounge Music Festival is now in its ninth year and it’s the perfect music festival for families. The festival takes place over two weeks and consists of three to five concerts per day in different venues around Les Gets, from open air gigs in the town centre or on the mountain, to intimate performances in the town’s bars and restaurants. Artists range from local to international and span the genres, from hip hop to acoustic and everything in between. And the best part is, the whole thing is FREE so you can dip in and out around your other holiday activities.

Morzine Beach: 7th – 8th August
That’s right, every summer, Morzine transforms its town square into a beach, complete with real sand! This two-day spectacle is packed with activities kids will love, from games to face painting to creative workshops. And of course, there’s a beach bar for the adults as well!

Royaume des Marmots: 11th – 15th August
Royaume des Marmots is one of Morzine’s longstanding events for kids and it provides a whole week of fun and activities for little ones. Creative workshops, giant inflatables, performances… your kids won’t be bored this week, we can guarantee it!

Festival de Conte: 11th – 13th August
New for this summer, the Festival de Conte at l’Abbaye d’Aulps is three days dedicated to the art of storytelling. Kids and adults will enjoy performances and recitals in French and English focused on traditional tales and folklore in one of the area’s oldest buildings. Entry to the festival is mega cheap, and if you have a Multi-Pass you can get in for free!

Bosch E-MTB Challenge Avoriaz: 24th August
If you and your family are the adventurous types and you love a good pedal together, why not sign up for the Bosch E-MTB Challenge in Avoriaz? This inclusive e-bike race is deigned for all levels of rider and includes three different courses; the Explorer course is untimed and is the perfect way for the whole family to explore the area on e-bikes.

Medieval Tuesdays
Another excellent summer activity from l’Abbaye d’Aulps, Medieval Tuesdays take you on a trip back in time to the middle ages, where you can learn and experience lots of different aspects of the medieval period, from medieval entertainment to medicine. Super fun and educational for all ages, each week has a different theme and none of them are to be missed!

Harmonie Municipale de Morzine
Every Thursday night throughout the summer you can enjoy a free concert from the Harmonie Municipale de Morzine. A great way to support a local organisation, the orchestra start off at the Morzine Tourist Office and make their way down to the Mairie. Look out for a great repertoire of songs, from pop to classical!

Rafting and Canyoning
If your kids are a bit older, taking them rafting or canyoning is a great way to see the area and it gets the adrenaline pumping! We recommend Frogs Rafting and 7Aventures, they’re super friendly and they’ll make sure you stay safe the entire time.
ESF Summer Activity Camps
If you need a little time to yourself, why not enrol your kids in one of ESF’s summer activity camps for kids aged between eight and 17? You can sign them up for anything from half a day to a full week and they’ll get to enjoy activities like mountain biking, climbing and rafting, while you kick back and relax!

Quad Biking for Kids at Le Tremplin
Le Tremplin is renowned for its winter après ski parties and great selection of live music, but this summer it’s introduced kids’ quad biking to its bag of awesome, too! Run by quad bike specialists Banana Quad Morzine, Kids from the age of five will be able to enjoy all the four-wheeled fun on a safe, supervised track at the base of the Pleney. And you don’t even need to worry about noise and excess pollution because the bikes are electric! Plus, while you’re there you can hang out with the goats and chickens, as well as sample le Tremplin’s delicious food and drink menu. Win, win.

Luging
No holiday in Morzine would be complete without luging! The whole family can get involved and it’s REALLY fun. Perfect for a morning or afternoon activity, you can find the luge track at the base of the Pleney and there’s a kids’ and a grown-up’s run, so something for everyone. There’s even a camera halfway down that takes a picture for you to buy at the bottom (if you want to). Make sure you check out our guide to luging before you go!

Mountain Minis
We’re stoked that Matt and Ali, the owners of Saint Jean d’Aulps’ newest ski shop, Mountain Aspect, have transformed their shop into a coffee shop for the summer. And we’re even more excited that Mountain Aspect has it’s own mega kids play area, Mountain Minis. Perfect for a rainy day, your kids will have a massive space to play, with lots of fun toys included, while you can kick back with a coffee, a bacon sandwich and a cake. The biggest win, win situation EVER.
