You’ll remember that a while back we reported on the new Avoriaz Brochaux chairlift replacement, improving the connection between the bottom of Mossettess and Avoriaz. We’d also noticed that a whole new piste was being created to go with the new chairlift. Avoriaz Office de Tourisme have been running a competition to name this new piste and today the winning name was announced.
Blue Velvet will be a new blue run connecting the the area directly below the new Brochaux lift with the Mossettes bowl. It’s named after the 1986 Academy Award winning American mystery film that debuted at the 1987 Avoriaz International Fantastic Film Festival.
In the movie college student Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) returns home after his father has a stroke. When he discovers a severed ear in an abandoned field, Beaumont teams up with detective’s daughter Sandy Williams (Laura Dern) to solve the mystery. They believe beautiful lounge singer Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini) may be connected with the case, and Beaumont finds himself becoming drawn into her dark, twisted world, where he encounters sexually depraved psychopath Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper).
