Morzine’s neighbour Avoriaz scooped the award for ‘Best Family Resort’ at the first ever World Snow Awards in London this weekend. The resort, which has undergone massive redevelopment over the last three years, was shortlisted against Ski Welt in Austria, La Tania in France, Big White in Canada and Smugglers Notch, USA. Well done Avoriaz!
The inaugural World Snow Awards promised to honour the best of the ski industry around the world and are set to form the centrepiece of the annual Ski & Snowboard Show at Earls Court in London each year. The judging panel were 18 strong and included ski industry experts and professional skiers. There were 28 individual categories, ranging from resort awards, kit and clothing, retail, travel and an ‘outstanding contribution’ award.
It’s hoped that winning a World Snow Award will become a recognition of best practise within the ski and snowboard industry and an independent stamp of approval for the winners.
I’d like to direct you to a full list of the winners right now, but unfortunately nothing (as of yet…) has been published on the World Snow Awards website. Maybe they’re still nursing their heads after the bash…
