There’ve been a number of fatal avalanches across the Alps over the last week, which is unsurprising considering the volume of snow that has fallen. Whilst those pillows of off-piste powder may be tempting, it’s vital that you don’t leave the safe confines of the piste unless you know what you’re doing and you know how to determine the risk.
Avoriaz Alpine Ski School have arranged an avalanche awareness / mountain safety course THIS Wednesday between 11.45am and 1.45pm, in addition to an Intro to Off-Piste course on Thursday between 2pm and 4pm. Sessions will include the theory of how to avoid avalanches, how to analyse the snow pack and how to use avalanche equipment. All are essential skills if you’re considering hunting for untracked powder heaven.
Priced at €45 for resort visitors and €30 for resort staff, transceivers, shovels and probes will be provided. You’ll need to book yourself on the course in advance by calling +33 (0) 4 50 38 34 91 or e-mail email@example.com
